Cheness SGC Katana "Tsukikage	Both swords have live ( very sharp ) blades and are extremely effective in cutting exercises. I have used the wakizashi in cutting a full roll goza mat and can personally vouch for its cutting ability.
The daisho set consists of two swords, the katana ( Dai-Big ) and the wakizashi ( Sho-Small ). The wakizashi being the smaller sword has 30.5" blade and shares all the characteristics of the SGC katana.	This diagram makes the comparison between the standard katana and the SGC katana blade geometry. Clearly a more effective cutting edge with the use of modern metals.
